Departmental activities (January – March, 2023)
A team of post graduates from the department of Medicine, LHMC participated and won first prize in the quiz competition in Airforce Central Medical Establishment Diabetes Update 2023 which was held on 7th January 2023. On the next day, i.e., on 8th January 2023, another team of post graduate students from the department participated in the quiz in East Delhi Physicians’ Association Conference (EDPACON), 2023. They made the department proud by securing 3rd position in the competition. Dr. Rohan Sharma, 3rd yr resident won the 3rd prize in the Post Graduate Oral Paper Presentation in the conference. Few of the faculty chaired the session.
Considering the unanticipated increase in COVID-19 cases in neighbouring countries like China, the department of Medicine in LHMC successfully organized “Refresher Training Schedule: COVID-19 disease” on 13th January to reinforce the COVID appropriate behaviour and step up the level of preparedness. Lectures and demonstration sessions on COVID triaging of patients, Hand washing, Donning doffing technique of PPE and sampling method for COVID-19 were arranged for guiding the fresh team of medics and paramedics who had joined the hospital after the disastrous waves of the pandemic.
One of the post graduate students, Dr. Vineet Goel from the department participated and won the 2nd runner up prize in the Grand Finale of National Quiz- Torrent Young Scholar Award which was held in Mumbai on 22nd January. Dr Ghotekar and Dr Madhur Yadav chaired session at EDBCON organised on 22nd Jan 2023 by IMA East Delhi.
Annual conference of The Association of Physicians of India (APICON’23) was organized in Ahmedabad from 26th-29th January. Many faculties from the department have graced the event by chairing multiple scientific sessions and delivering valuable lectures on salient topics in medicine. Our squad of post-graduates students not only participated as delegates but also presented papers and one of them secured the prestigious Original Paper Merit Award in the conference.
Postgraduates from the department of medicine joined the 4 lecture sessions of IMPETUStroke project conducted by the department of Neurology in large numbers and made it a successful venture. Resident doctors were trained according to a standard training module for improving understanding and knowledge about stroke and patient care.
On the occasion of World Kidney Day 2023, department of Medicine organised a Public Awareness Program on 9th March 2023 in the Medicine OPD, 4th floor, New OPD Block, LHMC. Faculty and residents of the department delivered public awareness talks and clarified the doubts of patients and relatives.
In view of blazing summertime, knocking on the door, a preparatory lecture was held in Medicine seminar room, New academic block on “Heat related illnesses” on 13th march by our faculty Dr. Kuldeep Singh which was attended by the faculties and resident doctors of the department. The lecture sensitized the residents about the various possible presentations of patients exposed to excessive heat for prolonged period. They also learnt about the primary management of such patients.
Another Public Awareness Program was organised by department of Medicine, on the occasion of National Vaccination Day on 16th March 2023 in the Medicine OPD. Faculty and Residents of Medicine delivered public awareness talks imparting knowledge on the needs of vaccination of various diseases in adult population to build up a healthy community.
At international forum Dr. L. H. Ghotekar, HoD has delivered a talk at world Pharmacon (virtual) and 2 residents (Dr. Suman Gupta and Dr. Tushar Shailat) presented oral paper on 21st and 22nd March 2023.
Department of Medicine and Department of Pulmonary Medicine jointly organised a Patient awareness program on occasion of World Tuberculosis Day on 24th March, 2023 in the OPD and OPD waiting area, Ground floor, New OPD Block. Patients and their attendants were successfully enlightened about the treatable and preventable nature of the disease and importance of adherence to the therapy.
Department of Medicine organised a CME on Diabetes Mellitus on 25th March 2023 at Medical Education Unit Hall, Swarna Jayanti Auditorium, LHMC. Our HOD, Dr. L.H. Ghotekar and guest speaker Dr. Nishant Raizada, HOD, Endocrinology, University College of Medical Sciences delivered informative lectures on insulin resistance and basal insulin therapy. Eminent faculties from the institution and post graduate residents were present in the CME to be the part of this divine learning experience.
