A CME was jointly organized on the occasion of World Mental Health Day by the departments of neurology and medicine on 10th October in the MEU hall, Swarn Jayanti Auditorium, 3-4pm. Insight into the approach to dementia as well as challenges in the care of dementia patients was shared by faculty from both the departments.

Another CME program on the occasion of World Stroke Day was jointly conducted by the departments of Medicine, Neurology and Surgery (Neurosurgery) 2.30-4pm on 1st November in the MEU hall. Residents gained from the informative lectures on clinical manifestations, management and challenges faced.

The Department of Medicine celebrated Diabetes Week (7-14th November) by organizing a diabetes awareness program over the week. The general public benefitted from the awareness talks given by residents and faculty alike in the Medicine OPD. Also, a screening camp was organized where random blood sugar testing was offered to all OPD visitors, after which they were appropriately referred for diagnosis confirmation and management. World diabetes day was celebrated in the institute on 14th November by organizing a widely attended and successful program by the departments of Pediatrics and Medicine. Activities were focused on type 1 diabetes in keeping with this year’s theme for the day “Optimizing healthcare in type 1 Diabetes” and mainly included a session on diabetes education for patients and a sensitizing symposium for doctors in the mini auditorium of the academic block.

A rally conducted for raising antibiotic awareness on 19th November kicked off the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (18th-24th November) with observance of this year’s theme “Preventing Antimicrobial Resistance together”. A

post-graduate level quiz was conducted by the antimicrobial stewardship committee on rational use of antibiotics on 22nd November 2-4pm under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Sameer Gulati. 15 teams of PG students from VMMC, RML & LHMC participated in the event. This was concluded by a panel discussion on 23rd Nov 12.30-4pm on antibiotic stewardship and rational use of antibiotics, with a poster competition on the topic “Spread awareness and Stop antimicrobial resistance” in parallel. Winners and participants were appropriately felicitated. It

was a great learning experience for all. Awareness talks were also organized by residents and faculty in medicine OPD to impart knowledge to the general public regarding eschewing irrational or over the counter use of antibiotics, importance of seeking consultation of a health care professional for the same and in general to increase awareness about the growing problem and dire consequences of resistant microbes or “superbugs”.

A lecture was held at the medicine seminar room, new academic block on 12th December 1-2pm by the Lipid Association of India (LAI) with Dr. Raman Puri, senior cardiologist being the guest speaker. This was followed by hands on demonstration for the residents on hi fidelity medical simulators including full body patient simulator and auscultation simulator.
